DEI Declaration

Our Commitment to the Diverse Individuals We Serve

At The Buckeye Ranch, diversity, equity, and inclusion are not just values; they are the core of our identity and mission. We commit to fostering an environment where every individual is valued, respected, and empowered. Together, we stand against systemic injustices and actively work towards a more equitable future for all.

The Importance of DEI

While we are committed, we also understand that we serve within institutions that are known to be inequitable in their treatment – child welfare, behavioral health, education, juvenile justice, etc. We understand that, as an organization, we must commit to becoming more knowledgeable and skilled in analyzing our role in these inequities, and change our thinking and behavior if we are to impact systemic change. We commit to not being contributors to institutional racism and inequities in our day-to-day behavior and decision making.

Line Arrow 22

To better serve children, youth and families, equity will be embedded in our continuous quality improvement; measuring our behavior to ensure equitable outcomes for children, youth, and families.

In addition, we are committed to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workforce to better reflect and serve our client population. We will promote an organizational culture that values all people, measuring outcomes for continuous improvement.

Measures for Internal Use

Client outcomes to be measured would include, but are not limited to:

  • Number of placements in out-of-home care, once they enter The Buckeye Ranch continuum
  • Discharge to less restrictive environment from our care
  • Length of service
  • Involvement of a third party in de-escalating or addressing behavior of clients
  • Review of client diagnoses to assess if marginalized populations are disproportionately misdiagnosed
  • Preparation for self-sufficiency

Organizational Priorities

Our commitment to DEI is evident in our organizational policies and procedures, as part of our strategic plan, and within our organizational goals. To achieve a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive workforce, measures will include, but are not limited to:

  • Race and gender of workforce at all levels, categorized in recognized EEO groups, and compared with the available labor market.
  • Promotion by race and gender
  • Retention/turnover by race and gender
  • Engagement and satisfaction scores. Improvement (or reduction) in scores will be assessed and communicated. Initiatives to continuously improve will be enacted.
