Residential Treatment Services

inpatient counseling and mental health support for children and youth

At The Buckeye Ranch, our Residential Treatment Services are our most intensive level of care for children and their families. Residential care is provided through two programs, our Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP) and our Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) on our Grove City residential campus.

Helping Youth Overcome Behavioral Hurdles

Services are offered at our secure Grove City campus, where youth are provided with in-patient mental health care; individual, group, and family therapy; physical and nutritional healthcare; social emotional coping skill support; and on-site education through South-Western City Schools.

Our Residential Treatment program, which is certified by the State of Ohio, offers assistance for children and youth with serious mental health challenges that are best addressed outside of the home. With amenities ranging from a fitness center to animal-based therapy, our facility provides valuable services to young people dealing with self-harm, substance abuse, physical and verbal aggression, suicidal ideation, and other significant issues.

medication management

Our Residential Treatment Services team at The Buckeye Ranch collaborates with our Integrated Care Services team and clinical team members to support families in diagnosing and treating mental health issues in children and youth, including prescribing medications when necessary. Our prescribers meet regularly with patients and their families, and offer access to the clinical treatment team in response to all questions and concerns. Our team consists of physicians, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, and support staff, all dedicated to child and adolescent health.

The Buckeye Ranch's Secure In-Patient Residential Campus

For youth inpatient mental health treatment in a secure residential setting, our secure campus provides the care and structure they need with locked units, cameras, and low staff-to-youth ratios. In this environment, youth of all genders and backgrounds, ages 9-17, are provided the treatment and skills they need to prepare for a successful transition back into the community.

our residential campus

The Buckeye Ranch has been able to create a unique approach to education by partnering with the South-Western City School District to provide instruction on campus for our youth. The Buckeye Ranch provides the physical space that houses the classrooms, and South-Western City School District provides certified teachers.

Our campus is equipped with numerous facilities and unique therapies and resources to promote wellness, recovery, and healing during the youth’s stay:

  • Two gymnasiums
  • One cafeteria to provide all meals (menu developed by a licensed dietitian)
  • Swimming pool (with lifeguard)
  • Fitness center
  • Recreational room
  • Shelter for outdoor activities
  • Small animal facility
  • Adventure-based therapy
  • Art therapy

At The Buckeye Ranch, we believe that providing quality care for children, youth, and families goes beyond the basics. For over 60 years, it has been our belief that services for children, youth, and families should reflect evidence-based practices in the field of mental health treatment. • Facilitated outreach and engagement of the child’s family in the child’s treatment plan
  • Discharge planning and family-based aftercare supports for at least six months post-discharge
